Curvy Balance Board

A curvy balance board is an open ended Waldorf inspired toy. It is for all ages and can be used in endless ways.

We love the question: what is a curvy balance board? Because a curvy balance board can be whatever you want it to be! That’s right, instead of being powered by batteries, this toy is powered by your children’s imagination! Our Capikooa curvy wooden balance board is a toy that is designed with no rules or instructions, children are free to use their imagination when playing with a Capikooa balance board. Open-ended play allows children to be curious, explore, and create, all whilst learning. Our balance boards are inspired by Waldorf and Montessori principles.

So what does Waldorf and Montessori mean and what’s the difference?

Waldorf and Montessori are both methods of education that take a child-centered approach to learning. They both encourage creativity and a natural learning environment, with minimal technology. The difference is that whilst both Waldorf and Montessori philosophies believe that children need a connection to the environment, Montessori focuses on children’s real life experiences whereas Waldorf places emphasis on children’s imagination.

Our wooden balance boards engage children in games that get their imagination at play for long periods of time, this helps them learn and develop their motor skills, balance, stability, and agility and encourages a spark in imagination as they can transform the curvy board into anything! A bridge, tunnel, boat, slide, are just a few of the many things your child could use the board as! This encouragement of the imagination is similar to the Waldorf method. Montessori, on the other hand, focuses on real life experiences so the board could be a table or a chair during playtime. Did you know that our wooden balance boards don’t have to just be for children? Adults can also enjoy our boards as they’re great for strengthening muscles, yoga, and just for relaxing! The versatile nature makes it a great addition to the family. If you’d like to learn more about the benefits of imaginative play along with some fun play ideas, click here.

So why choose a curvy balance board?

Children are constantly moving, it’s natural for them, we know this because they never sit still! This is because they’re still learning to control their movements and balance. When children hop, skip, jump, climb, they are actually learning and growing which creates the opportunity for them to progress through their early years development. Without movement, the brain is unable to develop the necessary skills for intellectual development, which is why we say that children learn with their bodies before their brains! This Is why it’s important for children to be encouraged to move, explore, and play as part of their everyday life! Don’t get us wrong, electronics and screen time isn’t inherently bad, it's great moderation, but our toys are designed to stimulate movement and imagination!

In a world where technology is everywhere and can do almost anything, give you kids the gift of imagination, innovation, and creativity. The skills of the future! Click here to find out more about our wooden balance boards.

Our curvy wooden balance boards are made in Europe

All of our curvy balance boards are made of harvested European beech wood that is sustainably sourced with FSC certificate. Beech is used as it’s a hardwood related to the oak, but the lumber is much harder. As a result beech makes superior plywood that is stable, affordable and readily available. The materials used in the making of the board are carefully selected and made to the highest quality to ensure they will last a lifetime. Our boards are suitable for over 3 years old when using it for physical activity. CE certified meeting EN71 safety of toys and REACH regulations.
